Period

Period is the time it takes for one cycle to occur. Period is the time from the start of a cycle to the end of the cycle.

The Period is determined by the ultrasound source and cannot be changed by the sonographer.

The unit of period is the units of time seconds, msec, µsec.

Normal values

0.1– 0.5 µs

0.0000001– 0.0000005 sec

1 x 10ˉ⁵ – 5 x 10

The period is inversely proportional to the frequency.

As the period increases, the frequency decreases.

As the period decreases, the frequency increases.

If period is unchanged, frequency is also unchanged.
